WHAT IS AN ARBORIST REPORT

An arborist report is a document that outlines the condition of a tree in question. It must be prepared by a certified arborist, and must outline the location, condition, and areas of concern regarding the health of the tree, as well as any problem areas. There can be two sources of tree damage: biotic, from living sources such as insects and fungi, and abiotic: from non-living sources such as construction activities, lightning, etc. Arborist reports note all the problems that the tree has and provides recommendations about possible solutions to these problems, such as fertilization, pest control, or pruning and removal.

ARBORIST REPORTS ARE IMPORTANT FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS

• If you have a large tree on your property, and want to make sure that it possesses no danger to your or your neighbors’ property, an arborist can detail all the risks and plan a possible course of action.
• If you notice that your tree is sick, arborist reports can be used to find the best way to treat your tree.
• If you want to remove a tree, an arborist report is often required to meet the city by-laws in Toronto, Mississauga, and many other municipalities, to obtain a tree removal permit to remove or injure the tree.
• You will need a construction-related arborist report for an application to injure or remove trees associated with any kind of construction activities such as building, demolition, excavation, etc.
